Writing for College Readiness

Want to improve your writing and learning skills to meet college-level expectations? This course will build your confidence in your writing through frequent writing practice and the development of key skills such as research, argument and revision. With support from the instructor and peers, you’ll work to expand your voice so you can feel better prepared for future writing experiences.

What You'll Learn

  • How to write across multiple modes of discourse
  • How to give and receive feedback one-on-one and with groups
  • Tips for finding an entry point into any creative composition
  • Strategies for exploring and developing your individual voice
  • How to create a portfolio of your work

Who Should Register 

This course is for incoming 10th to 12th graders. It's not for students who need remedial writing help, and all students should have a high level of English language proficiency.

More Information

The in-person section of this course is taught on the UW Seattle campus.

The online section of this course is taught via Canvas and/or Zoom video conferencing. Classes meet in real time and are not recorded. Activities are held both synchronously and asynchronously. To participate, you should have access to a computer with a high-speed internet connection and a headset and webcam.
