Mechanics of Writing Workshop

Strong writing skills are a prerequisite for success in high school, college and beyond. In this course, you’ll strengthen your writing skills and master topics like grammar, sentence and paragraph structure, and narrative organization. Come away with some new skills to include in your writer’s toolkit.

  • Strategies for strengthening your writing and organizational skills 
  • Tips to help you outline, draft and revise your work 
  • How to provide and receive constructive feedback  
  • How to create a portfolio of your work 

Who Should Register 

This course is for sixth to eighth graders. It’s not a creative writing course, and it’s not for those who need remedial writing help. All students should have a high level of English language proficiency.

More Information

This online course is taught via Zoom video conferencing. Classes meet in real time and are not recorded. The instructor uses a blend of whole group discussion, small group and plenty of individual work time. 

To participate, you should have access to a computer with a high-speed internet connection and a headset and webcam. You'll also need some basic writing materials.  

If you don’t already have a Gmail account, please create one prior to the first day.  Your instructor will use this account to collaborate with you and distribute and access assignments.
