Introduction to Data Analysis & Storytelling

Data analysis is at the heart of understanding the world around us, and storytelling helps us share those insights in compelling ways. In this course, you’ll learn how to collect, clean and analyze data to uncover interesting patterns and insights. Then you'll practice using storytelling techniques to present your findings in a way that engages and informs your audience. Whether you want to explore sports statistics, social trends or environmental data, this course will help you turn numbers into narratives.

  • Basics of collecting and preparing data for analysis 
  • What descriptive statistics are and how to identify trends in data 
  • The fundamentals of data-driven storytelling, including how to structure your narrative 
  • How to use tools like Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel for analysis 
  • Best practices for presenting data findings in written, verbal and visual formats 

Who Should Register 

This course is for incoming ninth to 12th graders. You don’t need any previous experience in data analysis to enroll, but we recommend that you be familiar with spreadsheets.

This online course is taught using Zoom. Classes meet in real time and are not recorded. To participate, you should have access to a computer with a high-speed internet connection and a headset and webcam.
