Introduction to Architecture

Be an architect for two weeks! Design and build your own creations with your classmates, and learn how architecture can address social and environmental issues to help your community. In this class, you’ll explore your inner designer and learn architectural techniques to express your ideas through a variety of hands-on physical projects. This class offers an introduction to drafting and model making.

  • How to communicate architectural ideas with basic models and hand drawings
  • Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills used in the design process
  • How to collaborate with peers to share ideas and tackle challenges

Who Should Register 

This course is for incoming sixth to eighth graders and is open to students of all abilities.

This in-person course is taught on the UW Seattle campus.

Students who want a full-day experience can register for two courses — one in the morning and one in the afternoon — which will include a supervised lunch break between courses. Students should bring a lunch.
